For this garden in Oldfield Park, Bath, the primary goal was to enhance privacy and screen the view from an adjacent street. Our solution was to install a row of pleached hornbeams, a classic and elegant choice for creating a ‘hedge on stilts.’ This technique provides highly effective screening above the existing wall, securing the garden from view without sacrificing light or space at ground level. To complement the strong architectural lines of the trees, soft underplanting was added at the base to ground the design and create a lush, layered look. The result is a balanced and attractive space that now feels like a secluded and tranquil private retreat.
